Kingdom of Bruana 1837 The Successor to an Empire
Ikus bustled loudly as the sound of people walked the busy streets of the city and carriages traveled along the streets. The sounds of the bristling trains could be heard from the palace itself. King Mathies IX looked fondly upon the city with contempt. However, even with the success of this newly founded nation, it was still not the Empire that his father desired. It was not the Empire that his family deserved. It was not long before he heard a knock on his door from a servant. “Sir, it seems that the senate is ready to meet. You are requested, as per usual.” The man however did not enter, as King Mathies quietly readied himself and began to make his leave. “Shall I send someone to escort you to the Huis van de senaat?” Barely acknowledging the servant, King Mathies simply nodded and continued, as a guard quickly followed. By the time he arrived in the house, he saw all ten senators who had already taken their seats among the house. Each senator representing what they feel to be the best course of action for the people, now met to discuss restoration of the empire. An uneasy topic for many. Before discussion began, King Mathies IX began to speak. “As many of you are aware, we are in a difficult situation. The throne so close to our grasp and the Empire of Friena weak and unable to defend itself against our superior army, yet still we can not finish the job and retake what is rightfully ours. The Duchies of Norrin and Herran stand in our way. Formerly part of the empire, they to broke free from the grasp of my tyrannical cousin, in his attempt to reinvoke authority over our lands. We must make our move, however the discussion is how.” “Why must we continue bloodshed? The Kingdom of Bruana is far stronger than Frienia, they are no threat to these lands. Why must we fight and die for a title?” Shouted Kobus Ardes. A pacifist and reformationist. He struggled to restrict the rights of the king. Many believe he is only kept in the senate due to his excellent policies and administration. “A title? How dare you reduce the claim Mathies IX has to the throne of Frienia to a mere title. His family spilled blood in the name of taking that ‘title’, I say we move forward. We crush the duchies quickly and restore the rightful empire.” Shouted Mart-jan Knoef, a former General during the Second Frienian Civil War in 1820. The man, bloodied by war, hated the Empire of Frienia and constantly demanded solution through war. Though he often remained strictly center on most political issues, he had an extremely jingoist attitude. It was he, who Mathies needed if he were to convince the senate to move forward to war. After several hours of bickering and opinions a solution war reached. War, was to be the solution. Though invasion would not be immediate, orders to ready the men and begin movements towards the western border were issued.

Kingdom of Bruana 1837 The Drums of War The booming sound of the train was only defeaned by the orderly march of several thousand men arriving at the trainstation in preparation of being transferred to the western border. Well trained and experienced, the estimated number of men to arrive at the destination numbered fifty thousand. That was just the first week of August. By the end of the month One hundred and fifty thousand men were to be stationed at the border of Herran and Norrin. Under the command of General Corneel Bishorst, in command of the 2nd Bruanan army numbering seventy five thousand was under command of the Herran invasion force. For the next several month of the year he began plans to push the limits of how far Bruanan troops can travel, before being recognized by the Herranian army and turned back. Cannons were prepared along the border and troops were drilled regularly. The General cared little about how aware the small duchy was of the inevitable invasion, as long as they understood that they could not withstand the might of the Bruanan Army. “War? War is a time to die with dignity and honor. Herran shall not regret us sending them that honor.” The 1st Bruanan Army however was far less aggressive. At least in comparison to the sword rattling of General Corneel Bishorst. This army numbering an equal sizable amount of men was placed under the command of an old veteran of the 2nd Frienian Civil War, General Joren Wijdeman. Spending most of his time strategizing, his plan was to make a quick push for mainland Norrin and simply force the duchy onto it’s Island. Forcing the small Duchy to simply surrender due to lack of resources and a severe disadvantage. Quick and efficient, he cared little for honor as long as he served his country well.

Kingdom of Bruana 1837 An Empire in trouble
At the recent death of Borislov IV, King Mathies IX visited the struggling kingdom with heavy hearted condolences. Sending a letter to Kavilov, or specifically Paul of Khernikovia, on the current issue of his inheritance. “Dear Paul of Khernikovia,
I wish you good fortune after the death of your beloved father King Borislov IV, close friends with the Kingdom of Bruana and sharing feelings of it’s rightful claim to the empire itself, I can only hope to expect similar support from a man such as yourself. However, news of your disputed inheritance worries me. As such I have decided that I shall financially support your rule, in hope for good fortune once you take the rightful crown.
The kingdom of Bruana have strong opinions about those who rightfully deserve their throne, and Khernikovia is no different. As is tradition deemed by the people, it is you who they support and you only. Your half-brother a false pretender and the minority with a mouth shall hopefully be quickly undermines by your rule.
Best of luck,
King Mathies IX of Bruana”
