1837JANUARYThe Sikorski, one of the many Ship of the Line's stationed in the harbor of the capital of the League of Voskya, was not unlike other ships of the time. A herald from an older age, it remained the most prestigious type of vessel afloat based on necessity. As wooden, sail bound vessels go, she was as good as they got. However, unlike the other--and significantly smaller--navies of the world, the Voskyan Navy was a unique entity of and in itself. With a fearsome tradition that dated back to the early 1400's and a penchant for the seas, ships flying the Voskyan anchor were often in many degrees respected--or feared. The Sikorski thus would be subject to an interesting dilemma. Laid down in 1811 during the Frienian Wars ( 1799-1816), she was a weathered ship. A combat veteran of the Battle of Falco and the Battle of Veloce, she had served in the West Centran Squadron with some success and was refitted in 1819. Her time was coming to an end, but with the expense of maintaining new factory complexes and far away naval bases, it came up in the League Congress as to what should be done with the ship that had been come to be called the Poor Old GirlSikorski, circa 1837 LEAGUE OF VOSKYA ( DECISION) -- Refit the Sikorski: The Voskyan Navy must be maintained! We cannot afford, at this dire hour, to allow our enemies ever to hold a superior force than us! While it may be costly to do so, there are no alternatives to the existence of such a superior fighting force such as the Voskyan Navy! * The Sikorski (Ship of the Line) remains with the fleet. * -$3 (one time). * +1 Ship Design -- Decommission the Sikorski: While it is with a heavy heart, the Poor Old Girl has served us bravely, but will do so no more. The issue at hand must be unanimous. There are other expenses to be handled. While we stand at peace, it behooves us to disarm those weapons of war not absolutely essential. * The Sikorski (Ship of the Line) will be Decommissioned. * +$5 (one time).

1837FEBRUARYIn far Western Centran, the Khernikovian Empire was a massive construct of multiculturalism. With a population of 24,000,000, it has long stood as a testament of empire. Without any overseas territories, it exists mostly as an inward and isolated nation of backwardness and barbarity. It's nobles spoke Bruanan in court, but it's beleaguered indentured masses spoke local dialects, and less than 10% of the population as a whole shared a common language. Ruled by Borislav IV since 1819, the Khernikovian Empire was one of the few empires not affected by the Frienian Wars ( 1799-1816). Borislav however, was not to be ruler indefinitely. On February 17th, 1837, Borislav went to be with the Creator, and the immediate successor was not yet so clear. In fact, it was a muddled affair held hostage by an intricate web of foreign alliances and entanglements. -- Great Powers may make a decision on this event. -- Great Powers may send Financial Support ranging from [$0] to [$100] (Limited by their own treasury). [ Support Paul of Khernikovia]: Borislav IV's son, Paul, was 24 years old and the most common supplicant for the throne. A conservative like his father, he was a drunkard and a womanizer. Kicked from the Janikov Military Academy for tardiness, Paul remained in the background for the majority of Borislav's reign. Many nobles are fearful that Paul's reign would most likely be the end of the Khernikovian Empire as a whole. While a great many of the conservative party supports Paul, many do so only out of tradition. [ Support First Minister Kuzachenko]: A member of the Kolovian minority, Kuzachenko is a budding new liberal who wishes to see the Khernikovian Empire changed into a more liberal state. Kuzachenko understands however that being put into power is not an easy game, and wishes only to step into power with the popular support of the people. Kuzachenko's appointment may also hasten the collapse of the Empire, but will certainly appease the restless Kolovians, Hernikans and Verasans within the Empire. [ Support Count d'Aosta of Etelia]: The half brother of Paul, he is son to the widowed Countess d'Aosta of Etelia and long time lover of Borislav IV. Although only half related, he is a thirty-two year old member of Etelian Parliament, a successful cavalry commander and archer, he is well read and has published a volume of books regarding human anatomy. Etelia is a conservative as well, and wishes to see Khernikovia become a world power again, as it had once been in the late 1600's.

1837MARCHWhile a crisis of succession loomed in the Khernikovian Empire, the politics of Greater Centran continued to shift. The former Frienian Empire, now a fragment of its enlarged self, fought to maintain a sense of empire. Emperor Rogier IV allotted two events in the winter of 1837 in hopes of aspiring to the greatness lost during his father's tumultuous end that culminated in the Frienian Wars. First, Rogier IV formerly annexed the Duchy of Manticello and the County of Tarmua. These two duchies had been given a new lease on life with the end of the Frienian Wars as former vassals of the Grand Frienian Empire. The two duchies were resistant, but the fear of a second war on their already damaged and war torn economy made them rethink resistance. To be safe, Rogier IV had both the 87 year old Duke of Manticello and the younger but no less paranoid 34 year old Count of Tarmua executed. In their stead, more appreciative entities were put into power. Emperor Rogier IV of Frienia (b. 1792) The two territories seize amounted to only a million more souls within the empire, but their huge forests would be put well to use on establishing a resurgent Imperial Navy.
-- The Empire of Frienia annexes a single territory. -- The Empire of Frienia gains Lumber.

1837APRILAn expedition at the beginning of spring from Nova Voskya on the northwestern tip of the Faresian continent began. The expedition, a twenty-four man team made up of soldiers, sailors and merchants, traveled through the thick jungles and found a people there never before encountered. They were, like other Faresians, a simple and agrarian people. The expedition noted fields of rice and potatoes and in the villages the craftsmen wove intricate clothing from the cotton planted along the coast. The people called themselves the Tiamese, and they were ruled by an Emperor. Emperor Banomyong was a young man, barely twenty-five years old. He took the Voskyan expedition in with great acclaim and called them friends. Emperor Banomyong and his family, circa 1837 The expedition remained for the majority of the month where they studied, observed and learned about the Tiamese people. They were pacifist and had very little in the way of a professional military. Their warriors, the Athuki, were fierce tribal warriors, but they had no firearms and were truly. . as the expedition leader said: " backwards in more ways than one."
-- The League of Voskya discovers the Tiamese Empire-- The Tiamese Empire (6,000,000) have 1 Grain and 1 Cotton.
