Creating Your Nation
At the beginning, you'll want to fill out a Nation Application. As it goes, you begin with 10 Nation Points. This allows you some earnest diversity in the creation of your nation in the beginning of the game. Let's take each step one at a time.
1. [Geography]: This is your spot in the world. You begin the game with 1 Free Province that holds your capital. This costs you no Nation Points. There are some stipulations, however.
-- If your Capital Province starts in Centran (the Northern Continent), you will begin as a Modern Nation.
-- If your Capital Province starts in Serranthia or Faresia, you will begin as an Uncivilized Nation.
-- Any additional Provinces you gain using Nation Points must be connected to your original Capital Provinces.
The first Province you purchase costs 1 Nation Point.
The second costs 2 Nation Points.
The third costs 3 Nation Points.
The fourth costs 4 Nation Points.
You cannot purchase a fifth province because you only have 10 Nation Points in which to use.
2. [Colonies]: (REQUIRED: Modern Nation). This is your beginning colonial empire. There are three types of colonies:
-- Island: These are small islands that provide room for naval bases for your fleets. They cost 1 Nation Point.
-- Coastal: These are small colonies that provide a single Resource and some population. They cost 2 Nation Points.
-- Inland: Larger provinces that provide 2 to 3 Resources and often larger population. They cost 3 Nation Points.
* When you select a colony, you must choose whether it is in the Serranthian or the Faresian theater.
3. [Irredentism]: Irredentism is any political or popular movement intended to reclaim and reoccupy a lost homeland. If you start the game with this historical background, you start with 3 Random Claims on neighboring territories you may act on at any time. When you have completed the Irredentism Event, you receive [1 Free Technology] and [$250]. This costs 3 Nation Points.
4. [Army]: At the beginning of the game, your starting Army is the following: [Your Population (in Millions) / 100]. So if you have 10,000,000 Population, your starting army will be 100,000 Regulars. There are four levels you can begin to increase your starting army.
The first Army level you purchase costs 1 Nation Point and changes your nation to [Your Population (in Millions) / 80].
The second Army level you purchase costs 2 Nation Point and changes your nation to [Your Population (in Millions) / 60].
The third Army level you purchase costs 3 Nation Point and changes your nation to [Your Population (in Millions) / 50].
The fourth Army level you purchase costs 4 Nation Point and changes your nation to [Your Population (in Millions) / 30].
5. [Navy]: At the beginning of the game, your starting Navy is the following: [Coastal Provinces x 10]. So if you have 5 Coastal Provinces, you begin with 50 Ships. 20% of your starting ships will be Ships of the Line. So in this case 10 Ships of the Line and 40 Frigates.
The first Navy level you purchase costs 1 Nation Point and changes your nation to [Coastal Provinces x 12].
The second Navy level you purchase costs 2 Nation Point and changes your nation to [Coastal Provinces x 15].
The third Navy level you purchase costs 3 Nation Point and changes your nation to [Coastal Provinces x 18].
The fourth Navy level you purchase costs 4 Nation Point and changes your nation to [Coastal Provinces x 20]
6. [Factories]: You will begin the game with 1 Factory. Factories cost -3 Income a Turn.
7. [Naval Bases]: You will begin the game with 1 Naval Base that starts at Level 10, so that it can hold 100 ships.
8. [Maintenance]
-- Regulars: -1 Income per 10,000.
-- Conscripts: -1 Income per 10,000 (Mobilized). Demobilized Conscripts cost 0 Income/Turn.
-- Ships of the Line: -1 Income per 2.
