3. Nation Description:
Comprised of several overseas territories, colonies and the mainland of Voskya off the coast of Centran, the League of Voskya stands as a prominent naval and colonial power, originating from the overseas possessions and trading posts established by Voskya between the late 16th and early 18th centuries. The realm is ruled by the League Congress, a congregation of all the lords in Voskya and an elected ruler. Every lord has the right to veto, the right to vote, and the right to speak for any given proposition by any other with the King acting as a Head of State and influential, but not deciding fiqure in such congregations. Needless to say, decision making is a long and arduous process engaged with corruption and double dealings.
The elected monarch, whom is to represent the nation globally, is elected from among the lords of the League Congress and are bound by a strict treaty and oath upon the assumption of rulership.
4. Nation History
For most of it's history Voskya was a collection of squabbling petty kingdoms, the strongest of which controlled areas the size of duchies and the weakest controlling small hill forts overseeing a few huts. All that changed with the coming of Edwin "The Strong" of house Rendower who unified Voskya and became it's first king in the 13th century. It would be in these early years, with the construction of a fleet to ward of the invaders of the mainland, which would begin the strong naval tradition of Voskya that remains to this day.
The monarchy, with it's intertwining and changing dynasty as contact with the mainland of Centran became more common, saw it's crown in power until the late 16th century. Wherein Alaric III, the last monarch of his dynasty believed he could preserve his dynasty by adopting elective monarchy. His death in the 1570s was followed by an interregnum during which adjustments were made to the constitutional system, these adjustments significantly increased the power of the Voskyan nobility and established a truly elective monarchy.
Since the establishment of an elective monarchy, a grand variety of rulers hailing from many a province have since sat upon the Voskyan throne. Following these years, the nation has seen the expansion of it's navy and it's part as a major power in the Great Exploration with the establishment of several overseas colonies in the continents of Serranthia and Faresia.
Finding itself in the 19th century, the nation finds itself ruled by the League Congress and an elected ruler as a major power in the world. With a powerful navy under it's command, it sits upon the cusp of a grand colonial empire capable of spanning the globe.
